PROPOSED RACE WALKING RULES 2011
Definition:
The definition of Race Walking as defined in IAAF Competition Rule 230:
"Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground, so that no visible (to the human eyes) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg shall be straightened (i.e. not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the vertical upright position".
Background:
The Caversham Harrier and Athletic Club does not have sufficient resources in terms of officials either with technical ability nor in the numbers required to judge Race Walking events effectively. Therefore the Committee of the CHAAC will consider adopting the following rules for Race Walking events and invites your comments.
Rules:
- All competitors in Race Walking events will comply with the definition of Race Walking above.
- The Race Referee at his/her sole discretion may disqualify any competitor in a Race Walking event who does not comply with the definition of Race Walking above.
- Any competitor in a Race Walking event may report to the Race Referee during or within 10 minutes of the conclusion of the Race Walking event any competitor who during the event does not comply with the definition of Race Walking defined above.
- The Race Referee on receiving three (3) such reports from three (3) different competitors applying to the same non-complying competitor in any one event will immediately disqualify the non-complying competitor.
- The disqualified competitor will be informed by the Race Referee of the disqualification immediately.
- Rules 1 to 5 will apply to the following events:
- Ted Brown Memorial Races
- Vice Presidents 5000m Races
- Brighton to Green Island Road Races
- Club Cross Country Championships
- Any other event deemed by the CHAAC Committee to be a Race Walking event
