TRACK AND FIELD

When and Where

The Track and Field season runs from October to March each year. Competition is held every Saturday at the Caledonian Ground at Logan Park. Competition includes track and field events for all ages from U14- Senior (20-34) including Masters 35-49 and 50+ both male and female.

Track events

These range from 60m, 100m, 200, and 400m sprints. 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 500m middle distance. 10,000m is run only once or twice per season.

There are barriers events including hurdles and steeplechase over various distances depending on which age bracket you are currently in. These are also run each Saturday.

Field events

Field events are designated as throws, which include Shot Put, Discus, Hammer and Javelin.

Masters athletes also have the choice of a heavy weight throw and a throws pentathlon (5 throws events). These events are held once or twice per season.

Vertical Jumps are the High Jump and Pole Vault

Horizontal Jumps are long Jump and triple Jump.

All field events are held every Saturday. The number of trials allowed, depends on age groups.

PROGRAMME

The Saturday programmes are available online through the Athletics Otago website. These are set at the start of each season. There are 2 programmes, A & B and they run on alternate Saturdays. Competition runs from October through to December (Christmas Break) restarting in January through to end of February. There are selected Saturdays in March for competition depending on the schedule for National Champs.

During the New Year break there are events scheduled throughout New Zealand for the competitive athlete. These can be found on the Athletics Otago and/or Athletics New Zealand websites.

FEES

All Otago registered athletes are eligible to compete at the track during the summer season. Entry to all events including Championship events, is done online through the Athletics Otago website at a fee of $10 for senior athletes including Masters and $7 for juniors.

Championship events are scheduled over the season e.g. 10000m is generally run prior to Christmas, while all other championship events are run in February.

Un registered athletes may enter and compete for a fee of $20

All entries close at midnight on the Thursday prior to the Saturday competition.
